3 Tempat Kuliner Paling Maknyus di Batu!

Setelah puas dengan kegiatan Paragliding yang begitu menantang - dan masih terasa seperti mimpi ! - waktunya untuk berburu kuliner di kota Batu!

Jangan salah lho, kecil-kecil Batu emang cabe rawit banget, karena ada kuliner-kuliner yang khas dan tentunya maknyus banget di kota Batu ini!

Terletak di satu daerah bernama Alun-Alun Batu, terdapat 3 kuliner wajib coba disini, versi Born To Bite.

1. Sarapan dengan Susu Ganesha

Batu sangat terkenal dengan susu sapi segar yang berkualitas. Jadi, kalau kamu mau mencari sarapan sehat pada pagi hari, tempat ini wajib banget untuk dikunjungi. Terletak di belakang patung apel di alun-alun Batu, Susu Ganesha sudah ramai dikunjungi orang di pagi hari.

Menawarkan produk susu segar berkualitas, dengan harga terjangkau, susu Ganesha ini menjadi sarapan sekaligus susu favoritku selama di kota Batu! Ada 3 rasa utama yang bisa kamu pilih – semuanya seger dan enak bingits – yaitu Vanilla, Strawberry, dan Coklat. Selain susu segar tanpa bahan pengawet tersebut, Susu Ganesha juga menawarkan Yoghurt, dan aneka camilan seperti Pastel dan Lumpia.

2. Makan siang di Ayam Goreng Pemuda

Disaat perut sedang lapar, makan ayam goreng dengan sambal lalapan yang begitu nikmat adalah pilihan paling tepat! Ayam Goreng Pemuda menawarkan ayam goreng kampung dengan bumbu yang cukup manis, daging empuk, dan sambal terasinya bikin kamu semakin bernafsu saat makan!

Jika malas makan ayam goreng, ditempat ini juga tersedia aneka seafood – kepiting juga ada lho! – serta makanan khas Indonesia lainnya seperti rawon. Cocok banget sebagai tempat makan siang bersama keluarga.

3. Makan malam di Bakso Alun-Alun Batu

Ramainya Alun-alun di malam hari!

Tidak hanya ramai di pagi dan siang hari, namun alun-alun Batu terus beraktivitas hingga malam hari. Bahkan, di malam hari suasananya lebih ramai, karena terdapat pasar malam.

Setelah jalan-jalan berkeliling, ditambah dengan udara malam hari yang cukup dingin di Batu, pilihanku jatuh pada gerobak Bakso mungil dengan aroma menggiurkan. Aku pun segera memesan bakso lengkap dengan tahu dan gorengan. 

Wah, sepertinya pilihanku tepat karena kaldu daging didalam kuah begitu terasa, ditambah gorengannya kriuk kriuk... nyam! 

Oh iya, kalau mau pesan bakso ini harap sabar... Bapak penjualnya hobi banget bercerita tentang bakso dan pengalaman hidupnya, hahahaha!

Curry House Surabaya: What's your favorite curry?

Hey guys! I bet you've missed me ;p

Finally I already finished my 5 months internship in Jakarta, my Final Research Report (Skripsi) and here I am, back in Surabaya!!  

I’ve heard about this restaurant before, and finally I got a chance to try Curry House when I was visiting Raya Darmo Permai Selatan for a Creative Contributor interview in the area. 

THE LOCATION

Located on the 2nd Floor of Papaya Fresh Gallery (A supermarket), you’ll see a big sign of curry house in the entrance of Papaya (just turn your head to the left near the entrance door).

At first, I thought it was just a small restaurant. It turns out that Curry House is super spacious.

To my surprise, they have 2 places and they are connected through a corridor. 

That day was Monday, so there are not so many visitors in the restaurant.

At first, I thought their menu is printed on a wooden menu (so lovely!). But it’s actually their old menu. Their new menus are just printed on three pieces of regular, thick carton. You could see the full menus in the end of this post ;)

Let’s go to the foods & beverages review, shall we? 

FOOD 

Pork Cutlet Curry Rice - start from IDR 62,000

Why I said “start”, which means not a fix price?

Because you could choose your own favourite curry in Curry House.

So, starting from the beginning where you could choose from noodles, rice, or even sticky rice for the carbo, and then moving on to the portion, there’s Small - Extra Large, then choose the chilli level, choose the toppings (chicken, dory, nugget, karage, pork, and so on) and finally the curry sauce. 

What did I choose?

I choose rice - small - no chilli - pork cultet - pork curry sauce. So who’s with me? XD XD

I need to wait for about 7 minutes before I got my pork curry, which is kinda fast. On the first bite, I can feel the crunchiness of the deep fried pork, combined with the pork sauce, yummy!! I could eat this curry all day long, hahaha! Even though I order the small portion, but it’s big enough & makes you full, especially for girls ;) 

Anchovy Potato - IDR 32,000

Well, before I tell you how delicious their anchovy potato, first I’ll tell you that there are 3 kinds of potato finger food that they’re serving. Here are the differences:

1. Potato chips: It’s the usual french fries that you normally found in fast food restaurant.

2. Anchovy potato : There are two kinds, the first one is the thin, crispy potato (I ordered this) and the other one is like a potato wedges and have this flabby texture. 

3. Ras potato : It’s almost like a regular french fries, but a very very very long version of the regular one.

So yes, because I love crispy snack, I order the anchovy potato, crispy one. 

It’s really crispy and so crunchy, a perfect choice of finger food. They spread some other herbs & ingredients (I don’t know what they are, honestly) which makes it even better. 

BEVERAGES

Milk Lassi - IDR 20,000

I order milk lassi because the waiter told me it’s one of the favourite beverages here. Milk lassi consists of milk and yoghurt. In my opinion, it taste a bit strange and confusing, because you don’t know which one is more dominant, the milk or the yoghurt. Plus, I think there’s too much water in it. I just wish they could add more milk or more yoghurt so the taste will come out nicely.

Coca Cola - IDR 15,000

For those who didn’t like Ocha or any other Japanese drink, then the best choice is Coca Cola. Served in a can, I think I don’t need to tell you how Coca cola tastes like, right ? Hahahaha!

If you follow my food post, I bet you know that I’m super chatty and ask so many questions about each menu, before deciding which one I would like to order. Well… that’s habit, sorry! *wink*

And the waitress there respond all my questions quite friendly and try to explain what she knows. So yes, the service was really nice.

I personally think that The Curry House is suitable for families with younger children, friends, families, or even business meeting is suitable here. 

Overall, a very nice curry to try!

JW Marriott: Insta Meet Surabaya!

I know it's kinda late to post this since the event was on December 2014. 

But, there's no word for too late for a blogpost right? ;) 

Actually, the reason I'm super late to post this is because I was waiting for the announcement of the winner of Insta Eat Photo Competition (well, who knows I win it right?) then, I'll post about the whole Insta Meet Event + The Winner Announcement. 

Unfortunately, I didn't win the Insta Eat Photo Competition :'(

What is actually Insta Meet Event Surabaya?

Insta Meet Event Surabaya is held by JW Marriott Surabaya. The purpose is to market their restaurants even more - well, of course - and connects all the food lovers / bloggers / anything related to food addict together while enjoying foods provided by The Pavilion.

Not only that, JW Marriott also invites ko Jiewa inijie, one of the famous food blogger in Surabaya to share about his photo tips and tricks to us.

There were 20 participants invited, and one of them was me! ;)

Insta Meet Surabaya: The Schedule

So, what were we doing exactly in here?

On 2 p.m, the participants start to arrive on The Pavilion one by one. I was a bit late because of the Traffic, but fortunately I'm not the last person who arrives in here. 

I had a chance to taste The Pavilion Buffet at that day (Read the review below) for about one hour before the session with ko Jiewa begins. Ah, I should get there earlier to eat more and more, hahaha!

On 3 p.m, the session with ko Jiewa begins. He's basically talking about his photography journey and how he becomes a famous food photographer + blogger + instagrammer to us. Not to forget, the tips and tricks to get a very nicely done photo! It's really inspiring and I got a lot of new knowledges. Thanks, ko jie!

Eksis with ko Jie

After the session, then JW Marriott specially giving us some menus to be captured. The purpose is of course to apply what ko Jie has shared to us. The theme is all about the ambiance of eating inside JW Marriott. It was really fun and kinda crowded, because all of us is trying to get the perfect angle. Of course, there are plenty of tables provided for the 20 of us, so we all get a chance to take the food picture. 

Trust me, that drink is super delicious and refreshing!

The prawn is so beautiful and well-cooked, right?

Even though there are no closing, JW Marriott already said that we feel enough taking pictures, then we can go back home because the whole event already finished. I close it with taking a picture with ko Jie. He's a nice person and very kind. 

I hope that I can join the next and next event with JW Marriott or with ko Jie again!

The Pavilion Review

Yes, we're going to the last and the most exciting part, the food review!

There are plenty choices that you can eat in The Pavilion, such as western food, salad, bread, noodles, ramen, and so on. To be honest, the taste is fine, but it's not really wow. I don't get any "wow" moment while eating it. I enjoy eating all kinds of the main course there, though!

But then... the dessert is SUPER AWESOME!! I try all the desserts one by one and I can't pick my favourite one until now. Well, maybe it's the rainbow cake? Ah, no no no! All of the desserts are my favourite ever! I'll definitely come back for more desserts in the Pavilion and I recommend The Pavilion to all the food lovers in Surabaya!

Pipe and Barrel: A place to chill in Surabaya

Do you still remember about Chef Ken from the Top Three of Master Chef Indonesia 2? 

He's finally openning his cafe in Surabaya! 

It has an American - country design, which is very cool. There are also some songs played so that you can enjoy the ambiance and food more.

Food

Cheese Fries (IDR 22,000)

Drooling... yes? Hahahaha! This cheesy cheese fries is one of my favorite french fries ever! Especially the cheese on top of it. Oh my, can't stop picking it! Warning : addiction!

Honey Chicken Rice (IDR 35,000)

Doesn't like american or fast food? Relax, you can enjoy the Honey Chicken Rice special from Pipe & Barrel. It taste delicious, the chicken meat is so tender, and it's healthy!

Barrel Beef Burger (IDR 75,000)

Tadaa! The most wanted food in Pipe & Barrel is the Barrel Beef Burger. Just take a look at the size of this burger. So huge right? Love the texture of the meat, it's perfect! A perfect balance between the vegetables, buns, fries, and meats. 

P.S : You can request for medium rare, medium, medium well, or well cook meat. 

Beverages

Left - Green Tea Frappe (IDR 30,000)

Honestly, I really hate green tea back then. Yes, I super duper hate it. But because of my surroundings keep eating green tea and I was being push to eat it all over again, I unconsciously fall in love with green tea *edisi curhat*

And yes, I can tell you that this one is one of my favorite green tea frappe! The green tea taste strong yet balance with the milk and other things inside it. Slurp! I want more!!

Right - Lemon Italian Soda (IDR 22,000)

Nothing is more refreshing than Lemon Italian Soda. Unfortunately, I can't drink it a lot because I have a gastric problem recently. My doctor said that I can't eat Soda, Sour, and Chilli. :'(

Center - Lychee Soda + Ice cream (IDR 24,000)

Again, another refreshing + yummy drink (it has an ice cream on top of it OMG OMG). As you know, I'm an ice cream maniac... but again, can't drink it a lot because of this gastric. *sigh*

Overall, super love the food & beverages served here ! Affordable and it satisfy me!

Anyway, when I go there, Pipe & Barrel is having a give away a free book for minimum purchase IDR 200,000. I love the simple design of the book! 

Yes, I also agree with the quote, People who love to eat is always the best people!

Hotel Bumi Surabaya: When 3 restaurants blends in 1

Recently and I don't know why it could become such a coincidence, I come to Hotel Bumi Surabaya 3 times in a week. 

Yes, 3 times in a week, and this is an all you can eat hotel restaurant. Imagine how my fat keeps growing, hahahaha!

Hotel Bumi Surabaya offers an affordable price for each person.

It's only IDR 168,000 (disc 30& off) and you can enjoy eating in 3 Restaurants! (Kizahashi, Arumanis, and The Indonesian food in front)

During my 3 times visit, I ever sit inside Arumanis, in Kizahashi, and then in the back side of Arumanis. Overall, I'd suggest you to sit in Kizahashi, because the area is more comfy and elegant. 

I never try to sit outdoor, because the wind is too strong and it's a bit hot. 

If you take dinner, maybe outdoor is better so it will be more romantic.

For your information, the two restaurant (Arumanis and Kizahashi) are connected. So if you want to go inside out, no need to go outside, and then walk a bit further. You just need to go into this hallway, and then found the Kizahashi sign outside.

Let's begin the review!

Kizahashi Restaurant

I will start with Kizahashi

Representing the name, Kizahashi means a Japanese restaurant.

There are 3 main large table where you can found a grill table, and soup table

In the grill, there are meat, 2 kinds of chicken, vegetables, and fried rice. 

Overall, I think the chicken taste better than the meat. The meat is kinda cold and not warm enough even though the chef grill it in front of you. 

Also, be prepared to queue, especially at weekend, since this grill spot is become a favourite spot of the customers.

In soup area, there are cawan mushi, miso soup, noodle with soup, red meat, boiling vegetables, and fried tempura. 

I love this table side very much! Especially, because the red meat is just too yum! 

The noodle soup is also really delicious. The Tempura is really crunchy and a must grab. Be prepared to queue again and fight for your Tempura if it's on weekend. Hahahaha. Unless, you go a bit earlier than the others so that you can grab it in peace and get a bunch Tempura for your tummy.

I prefer the soup table rather than the grill one. 

Arumanis Restaurant

Moving on to Arumanis.

There are Chinese food, Indonesian food, drink selections, and fruits.

Honestly, I don't really like the Chinese food here.

For the Indonesian food, I never tried one because what they offer here is not my favourite Indonesian food.

They have a very wide selection of Indonesian traditional food (Ceker, Pepes, Babat, others) and the customers can order Rujak and Gado-Gado also here.

For the drink selections, I've tried all of them, and I'd suggest you to take the Strawberry Tea. Believe me, it taste really good and also sweet!

The Outdoor

Let's go outdoor !!

The outdoor one also offers a wide selection of Indonesian food and also blend with omelette,  and western dessert such as pudding.

I'll start from the left side (in front of Arumanis)

On the stall 1, you can found Omelette. You choose the fillings of the omelette. There are cheese, mushroom, onion, vegetables, and others.

Same like the others, if there are too many people queue, you can order first, leave it, and take it later on. It's also for the customers own convenience.

Next to it, there is a waffle and ice cream stall. Here, you can choose three options of ice cream, vanilla cookies, chocolate, and chocolate chilli.

I most favorite one is the vanilla cookies, but you must grab it fast because it also gone really fast!

I don't recommend the chocolate chilli because the taste is just too weird.

After that, you can also choose toppings with peanut, chocolate wrinkles, and cheese. Also some syrup, maple, strawberry, chocolate.

My suggestion, give it cheese and peanut, taste awesome!

The third one provide Sate Ayam, Sate Kambing and also some selections of Tempe Rice, and other kind of Rice.

I love the Sate Ayam! 1 portion only consist of 5 Satay, so if you want more just say the number directly to the chef, for example 15 satay, please.

Fourth one is the fried Indonesian food. There are Tahu Isi, Tempe Goreng, Spring Rolls, and others. It's not that interesting and also not that tempting. I only tried the Spring rolls and taste fine, but not great.

The fifth one is Indonesian traditional snack. 

You can pick whatever snack you want. My suggestion : try the Terang Bulan with Pandan and cheese or the regular one, also the little snacks which I don't even no the name (Shame on me, yes, because I'm an Indonesian people, hahaha!)

The sixth one is the pudding and also ice selections.

There are varieties of pudding, but I still can't find the one that I truly love. 

For the ice, try the pudding ice (you will get a matcha ice cream too) and also the es campur.

If you take dinner, then you can also taste the Wedang Ronde and Jahe (ginger base dessert soup)

Moving on to the upper part near the outdoor seats.

Here, they offer selections of steam Indonesian food such as Ketela, Pisang (Banana), Rice, and others. 

Also, you can taste Soto Ayam, Bakso, and ordered Indonesian fried noodle or fried rice. 

The Soto Ayam, Bakso (pick the Bakso Kasar) and fried noodle is highly recommended!

For those who love spicy, try the spicy fried noodle. It's yum!

Overall, I'm truly satisfied eating here!

Especially since I eat three times in a week, hahahaha!

A great choice if you go with family, colleagues, and friends.

Let me close it with something nice, yes, it's my favourite combination of waffle, ice cream, and toppings here.
