11 Unique Facts About Japan !

Hello guys! I just got back from my International Study Excursion with my university program (IBM) + Holiday in Japan :)
So before I post my travel journey from 13 until 24 April 2014, I’d like to share you some unique facts about Japan - in my version.

1. Japanese like to bow until it feels awkward for both of us

One night, I called the room service to repair my toilet’s sink. An old man came in and repaired it. When he finished and I know that I must respect the one who’s older than me, I bow to him and said “Arigato”. Then, he bow back. I bow back again, and he do the same thing. I bow again for the third time, even lower than him, and he bow back again. In the end, I smiled at him and he smiled at me too. The end of the story, because my friend close the door.

They love to help others, even when they can’t speak english - yeah, they use body language
There’s a time when my friends and I struggle to find this one place called Asahi Archery near Otsuka. So we asked a policeman there, and he helped us until he even open his map and show the way for us. Thanks policeman!! We asked lots of help for direction to the local people. Some of them didn’t help, but some of them were really nice even though they can’t speak English fluently.

2. Time = Priceless

When you’re in Japan, especially Tokyo, you’ll see almost all Japanese walk really really fast, ignoring their surroundings. Not only their walking habit, they also eat super duper fast with a very calm gesture! If you think that you’re a fast eater, then try eating next to a Japanese.
Not only that, when you buy groceries in a supermarket, you have to pack your things by yourself to save more time!

People pack their things themselves after paying in a supermarket

3. They eat while standing!

As I said, that time is priceless, there are several stores in Japan that don’t provide seats, so you can eat while standing. Guess what? The food is a cold food. I guess they are providing cold food so you’ll be faster in chewing the food. I ever try to eat in this kind of restaurant, and I can’t finish my food. In my opinion, the noodle taste a little bit weird because the soup and the noodle is cold.

4. Eating alone is not a problem

That doesn’t mean Japanese don’t eat together, they still are. But lots of Japanese, especially employee / businessman, eating alone. That’s why they can eat fast and save time.

They all don't know each other and eating alone.

5. Every man employee wear suits

This is the unique thing. Even though you’re not a boss or manager, if you work inside a company, you will wear a suits! A very formal and complete one, with a hand carry on your hand.

5 Ways to "Breath" From Your Routine Activity

Have you ever feel that you're tired of your routine activity?
Seems like every tasks is really heavy and you can't burden it anymore.
You start to worry that this is not the right path for you, and it is not your calling.
It's kinda hard to explain the real feeling of this kind of "Depression" situation, but the one thing you know is you want to leave everything behind and have a moment with yourself.

If you're feeling so, then take 1 minutes to read this article :)

I'll share some tips that come from my own experience, and I hope that it also can help you free your mind a little bit.

1. Sit in your bedroom and stare at the wall.
There's a moment when your brain is fighting against each other. The other side says "I don't want to do it", the other one says "Let's do it". Your brain keeps arguing and you start getting confused. If this happen, you can sit on your own bedroom and stare at the wall. Listen every words that two sides of your brain says, and take the good side or the right decision by your own.

2. Take a morning walk alone and feel the fresh air.
When you wake up from your bed, it's the right moment to re-think about what you've done and think your good moments when doing your routine activities. Maybe by doing that you can help your parents company, you can meet with your friends, you're doing it for charity, and so on.
It always has a reason ! :)
If you think that your routine activity is not the right path / your calling,  then I suggest you to think about your life and what you really want to do.

3. Singing out loud.
Sometimes, it is just your mind trying to confuse you. You're actually okay with your routine activity, but as a human being, we do feel bored. That's why we need something new. Something that out of our routine activity. Singing can be one of the way to get out from your routine. Pick your favourite song and just S-I-N-G! Relax, no one will pay attention how weird your voice is! Hahahaha.

4. Eat and chew SLOWLY! (really, this helps!)
What I mean by this is when you eat, try to feel the seasoning of the food you eat and the sensation. Chew it slowly in your mouth, and enjoy your food. You can pick your own favourite food.
I choose to eat dessert in a time like this. Close your eyes and feel the food. Dessert has a sweet sensation where you can feel the sugar, the soft cake, the butter, the chocolate melts in your mouth... yum! I can feel that in my throat right now!

5. Take a day off, enjoy yourself :)
Don't let your brain keep running. Sometimes it need a rest so that you can re-start freshly with a fresh mind.
Sometimes I take a day off college and stay at home, putting on my face-mask and laying down in my bedroom with the air-con on and some of my favourite music.
That way, I can think positively and get a new wisdom.

The main point is, do whatever is different from your routine activity, so that it won't make you get bored. Just try something new!
Do what you believe will reduce your stressed, it's okay even though it's weird! Just be you!
But don't do something criminal, hahahaha.

See you!

Petra Christian University - Tree made from Kites, wow!

Christmas is approaching us!

In my university, there’s a unique Christmas Tree that is made from Kites
It is located inside the Library in W Building, on the 5th Floor, at Petra Christian University.
I think the Idea came from the Library Team itself, and I must give a standing applause for them.
It is a creative idea, I mean it. I love the idea and I love how it looks like!

My dad even know that Petra has this Kite Christmas Tree from Television.
Yeah, you’re not the only one who surprised to hear this, I also don’t believe it when my dad told me it’s on TV.
Well, I think it is a good chance for Petra itself so more and more people will recognise the good reputation of Petra :)

Lucky me, I can see, take a picture and touch directly this Kite Christmas Tree!
