Bandung Eatinerary : Street Food - Food that Everyone Loves!!

3 days drooling around Bandung!
Bandung is known not only for their factory outlet, but also for their delicious street food.
There are many famous street food around, and I've collected some photos so that you know what street food you should eat too!

This is fully based on my own opinion, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong !

All the food collections here are located on Jl. Riau / R.E Martadinata road
(This road is also full of Factory Outlet / Clothing Distro, so you can eat - walk - go in to some shop - eat - walk - go in to some shop - Repeat ! )

1. Batagor & Siomay

This is the most famous food come from Bandung. You haven't been to Bandung if you haven't eat this!
Batagor = fried ; Siomay = stewed
I don't really like Siomay, I prefer Batagor more because for me it's more crunchy, oily, and it's more yummy, hahaha! But, my father prefer Siomay since he doesn't really like fried food.

Price : IDR 15,000 for 1 portion
1 portion consist of 5 pieces. You can add more if you like.
You can either choose it by yourself, or you can mix it up together
The choices are : Batagor, Siomay, Tahu (Tofu), and some vegetables.

I always choose Batagor for all 5 since I only like those.

The Best Batagor in my version :
On the street in front of The Heritage Factory Outlet, Jl. Riau / R.E Martadinata
Note : There's a juice stall just beside the Batagor that you should also try. It taste really good! My favourite juice : Strawberry
Juice Price : IDR 12,000 up, depending on what fruit.

2. Pisang Goreng (Fried Banana)

You can found lots of Pisang Goreng stall all along the way in Jl. Riau

Price : IDR 12,000 up, depending on flavour
The way to cook it, you need a ripe bananas, heat the oil, and fried the banana until it's brown.
Then, you can choose the flavour, there are chocolate, cheese, sugar, and original.
My favourite : Chocolate and Cheese!
It's really savoury and you will crave for more!

The Best Pisang Goreng in my version :
In front of The Secret Factory Outlet

3. Rujak Buah (Mix Fruit)

Price : depending on what fruit
You can choose the fruit, and the seller will chop it for you.
Unlike the usual Rujak seller - they usually put the fruit on the plate - the ones in Bandung chop it and put it into plastic so you can carry it around. Really creative right?

You can tell a Rujak is delicious or not by the sauce that they made.
Note : the sauce is a bit spicy.
Well, because fruit taste almost the same as long as it is a good fruit right? hahaha.

The Ones that I tried :
In front of The Summit Outlet, Jl. Riau / R.E Martadinata

4. Bakso Kikil

Price : IDR 24,000
Bakso is a meatball in English.
Kikil is basically a part of beef, located near the cow legs.
Believe me, the Kikil they sell here is very soft and chewy. It's really tasty!
You should put some more seasoning like ketchup and chilli to make it even more tastier.

The Ones that I tried :
In front of The Summit Outlet, Jl. Riau / R.E Martadinata

5. Otak-otak

Price : IDR 4,000 per 1 stick
Otak-otak is made from fish, and then you grill it on the top of charcoal.
For the sauce, they use a peanut sauce, mixed with chilli and tomato.

The Ones that I tried :
In front of The Summit Outlet, Jl. Riau / R.E Martadinata
(In my opinion, it's not good, maybe you can found better Otak-otak rather than this one)

6. Tahu Gejrot

Price : IDR 10,000
Tahu Gejrot is basically a fried tofu mixed with garlic, chilli - a very hot one - and some sauce.
It's really delicious and a must try, especially if you're a chilli and tofu lovers!
P.S : Prepare a tissue for your sweat!

The Best Tahu Gejrot  in my version :
In front of The Heritage, Jl. Riau / R.E Martadinata. It's located on the small food court beside Heritage.

7. Kerak Telor

For Indonesian, you must be confused.
"Jauh-jauh ke Bandung makan kerak telor?" (Going to bandung just to eat kerak telor?)

Kerak Telor is actually Jakarta famous street food.
But well, since I haven't got a chance to tried Kerak Telor in Jakarta, why not eat it in Bandung? Hahahaha.

Price : IDR 18,500
Kerak Telor is made from rice, some seasoning, and an egg
(In the photo, I order the Duck Egg, it has a better flavour than Chicken Egg)
What makes them unique is the way the seller cook the egg.
The word Kerak is a "dried part", and the seller will cook it by flipping back the frying pan.

The Ones that I tried :
In front of The Heritage, Jl. Riau / R.E Martadinata. It's located on the small food court beside Heritage.

Got something more? Feel free to tell me!
Well, stay tuned on more Bandung Posts on this blog.

Plaza Indonesia & Grand Indonesia : Drooling Around!

I will be in Jakarta until August for my internship!
Well, internship doesn't stop me from exploring delicious yummy food!
Hahaha

My office is located on South Jakarta, and my boarding house is also on South Jakarta.
I'll be exploring more food around here ! ;)

My very first visit at Jakarta is Grand Indonesia and Plaza Indonesia.
Known for its shopping paradise with hundreds of well-known brands, this place is a must go place in Jakarta!
Besides the shopping part, we won't forget about the delicious part, its food paradise!!
I'm drooling to explore the food!!

Plaza Indonesia

QQ Kopitiam

At first, I’m so attracted by the design of this place.
Then, because I can’t hold any of my curiosity, I stopped by and try to eat at this place.
I choose the place located at the back, because it has a lot of sun light and it will make my photo looks good, hahaha.

Looking at the menus, I feel that, wah, this place is really affordable with a lovely place like this.
All the menus is around IDR 30,000 - 50,000 for the heavy meal. For the drinks, is IDR 10,000 up.

I decided to order 1 ice tea tarik, 1 kwetiau, and 1 fried rice.
It took a little bit longer (approx. 10 minutes) before I received my order.
In the meantime, I enjoy the place and also chit chat with my friend.
It feels so homey at this place. I really love the open space and its ambiance.

The food taste really good!!
I love the Kwetiau, there's a crab and also shrimps inside it. It's really full of flavours.
The Fried Rice is also delicious with meatballs and chicken inside it.
and I'm really going to die of the Teh Tarik, it's so refreshing and taste good!

Unfortunately, when I was there, there's this one group of men that come and sit next to us, and they're smoking!
It smells really awful because there are like two of them who are smoking.
Is it even allowed to smoke inside the mall? Because it's not even an outdoor location.

Besides the smoking men, I'm totally recommend this place to eat with friends or even with your family!

My Cha

After walking around Plaza Indonesia, I feel so thirsty and then I saw this place near the escalator of eX, and guess what?

They're having a promo of Buy 1 Get 1 Free!
Sorry though, the very first reason I try the Tea is because of this.

Then I ordered their original milk tea, and the bonus is the oolong milk tea.
The price become super cheap as it's only IDR 20,000 for 2 bubble tea!

For me, the milk tea taste good, it's not that sweet, so it taste perfect in my mouth.
However, I feel the bubble is too sticky and the oolong is too bitter for me.
But for you who doesn't like sweet at all, it will be perfect for you!

B-side Wakai

What? Wakai has a cafe?
In Surabaya, Wakai is only an ordinary shoes store from Japan.

Without any hesitation, I go inside the cafe to have a try.
I ordered the Original Origami Cake (Layer cake) worth IDR 40,000 for a single cake.
Unfortunately, I have to say that the price is too much.
It's not recommended at all, the cake taste really plain and cold. The cream is so little (you almost can't taste the cream)

What make it worst is there's a customers and again, she smoke inside the cafe.
I don't know about Jakarta, but in Surabaya, people definitely can't smoke inside the mall, wherever it is.

What I love is only the concept of the cafe, it's really artistic.

Grand Indonesia

Kempi Deli

It's a little bit hard to find this place, since it's located below a book store, and currently there's no other way to go here at that time. There's a renovation on the mall.
If you want to go to this place, you can follow the sign that will direct you to this place, or you can ask people around.

Kempi Deli is not a big restaurant, it's a very small but nice western concept cafe.
I love the way they display the bread, I feel like I want to jump straight to those breads!

The waiter is very humble and friendly, they'll recommend if you're confused and don't know what to order.
Don't know what kind of bread that suits to your sandwhiches? Don't worry, they will also pick the bread that suits with the beef taste just for you!

I order the CowBoy's one with a beef for the meat, it cost me IDR 75,000.
Do you think that's expensive? Well, it's totally not!
The beef is so plenty until you found your mouth really full, and it's really juicy and tasty.
The vegetable inside balanced the taste and give you refreshens.
I never eat sandwich this good!

Churreria

A day won't be perfect without a dessert, and I think it's totally true!
From far away, I can see that this place is so full of people, and I decided to made a reservation with one of the waiter there, and I also leave my phone number because he said he will call me.

Unfortunately, after I'm walking around for about 1 and a half hour, there's no missed call or anything, and I decided to came back because I really want to try it.
When I'm back, another waiter said that I haven't made any reservation :(
Luckily, there are people that almost finished, and I should wait another 10 minutes.
I wait while sitting near Churreria to make sure that I won't miss the spot again.

I ordered the Chocolate sundae with churros, and wait for about 5 minutes.
When it came out, well, all of my disappointment has been erased!
Oh my, the ice cream taste so yum!
The cream is yummy, the chocolate ice cream is very tasty, the Churros is sweet, and the syrup is really fit with the taste!
I feel want to eat it again and again, and 1 glass is not enough! Hahahaha
The price is kinda pricey, for IDR 45,000, but with the taste like that, it's really worth it!
Only the Brownies taste need to be improve. It's so plain and not tasty at all.

Suggestion : improve the service and make a reservation book so if there's changes in the employee, they all know what should they do.

Auntie Anne's

I've known this brand for a long time, and you can found lots of Auntie Anne's overseas.
But there's no Auntie Anne's in Surabaya, and I really crave for its pretzel now!

With a price of IDR 15,000 which is totally affordable, Auntie Anne's Cinnamon Pretzel never fails me.
It taste so good, not to sweet, and very the Pretzel is so soft!
The queue is very long though! Just be patient :)

Tokyo Belly

Ismaya group is really famous in Jakarta.
When I found out one of its restaurant, which is Tokyo Belly, a Japanese food restaurant.

I ordered the Tempura Chige Ramen, based on the recommendation of the waiter.
But sorry, the taste doesn't fit in my tounge.
The soup is too spicy and too strong for me.
On the bright side, I must admit that their Tempura taste amazingly good!
So crunchy and tasty

If you're Japanese food lover, maybe you'll love this place :)

Koffie Warung Tinggi

I heard a lot about this place from my friends and surroundings, and I also found out that this place is so full of people, and it makes me want to try this place!

I feel so full that day, that's why I only ordered 1 lychee tea for IDR 32,000
I'm sorry to say, the taste of the tea is really plain, literally taste like water, and the ice is too much.
Only the lychee taste good.

I love the concept of the cafe though. It's so comfy to hangout and have a chit chat with your friends there.
I also love the tissue with the vintage oldies design :)

Suggestion :
Improve the taste, please.

Totem Room Escape, The Hip Game in Jakarta!

On one fine day, my friend said to me "Hey Megan, I think this game is fun! My cousin ever played it before! Let's try it!”
Then, because of the curiosity and I also wanted to try it - like, badly - I start to search the information online.

After digging through some information and looking through all their Facebook posts,
We decided to try this game (It's so tempting to try!!)
To make sure that we got the place to play, we make a phone reservation for 5 people.
We called one day before the going to the place

A cute warning near the cashier and information desk

Introduction:

Totem Room Escape has four different levels (soon to be five!) that you can try, and each has approx. 50 minutes to play.

Level 1 : The Dark Land
Level 2 : Egyptian Escape
Level 3 : Mission Impossible (By the time this post published, it is currently unavailable due to reparation, but you should confirm it if you want to try this level)
Level 4 : Kidnapped
The price depends on how many persons that will play.
If your group is also 5 person like us, then the price for one person is approx. IDR 96,000
The recommended amount of person that can play is 2-5 person. But it's okay if you want to bring more people though!
They will change all the game / riddle once in every 6 month (if I'm not mistaken) so you'll never get bored to play!

After having a chit-chat with the employee via phone,  the employee recommend us to try the level 2 or level 1, so that we can understand how to play and the environment of the room.
We decided to take the level 2 because we're confident enough that we can solve the riddle and escape the room.

How to get here:

Totem Room Escape is not that hard to find.
It's located near Central Park. You just need to walk straight from Central Park.
Keep walking until you found a super big 7-11. The location is right in front of this big 7-11.
(See the complete address below)

We arrived too early at Totem Room Escape and we need to wait until 7 p.m.
Plus, there's still a group playing inside Level 2.
While waiting, we walk around the store, and there are lots of photos hanging there.
When I ask, the employee said all of them is the one who have ever escaped the room.
If we also can escape the room, then they will take our picture and hang it on the wall like the others.

Waiting...waiting...

It's 7p.m! Finally it's time for us to play!
After put our things up into the locker, the employee guid us into the room.
(Sorry, no pictures are allowed inside)

Then, inside the room, the instructor give us a little bit of introduction.
The point is, we need to escape from the room in 50 minutes, or else, we fail.
There are - I don't know - four different rooms, and we need to find the key to unlock all the rooms, and then we will free!

In the very first room, our foot is locked into a big chain, and we need to found the key to open the chain.
The room is very dark without any lights, and the instructor only give us one flashlight that we need to use it well to search for a clue.
Because we are in the Egyptian Escape, the room is design look a like an Egypt desert, with bunch of sands and also a mummy coffin.
Let the game begins!!

How's the end?

Unfortunately, we failed to escape the room :(
We were stuck in the third room - believe me, we can't find any clues there! :(( -

All I can say, this game is really interesting! You must use all your creativity and work as a team to solve the riddle.
YES, WE HAD SO MUCH FUN!! I really want to try it again, hahahaha
