Let's Go & Hunt Some Photos at Kota Tua, Jakarta!

Do you know beside Travelling and Eating, I have another hobby which is photography?
You might guess it while looking at my travel and food photos, even though it’s not a professional photography, it all looks great right?
(*Pede amat yak!* Well, it’s okay to be proud of myself sometimes, isn’t it? ;) )

On Sunday, I went to Kota Tua - in North Jakarta - because I already miss hunting photos too much!

Yes, it’s been a long time since my last hunting session.

I just started to work as a fresh graduates and I’m kinda busy in office!
- maklum, first jobber jadi so sibuk gitu deh -

Not only that… I went here because I want to drive my just-arrived Toyota Agya!
Finally after 6 months saving I could by a car with my own money!
*Whoa… 6 months? That fast?* I know you might get suspicious… hahaha!

Yep right, that fast! Thanks to Toyota Agya’s price that is very affordable and reasonable for a first jobber, I could buy my own car without asking my parents for that. super happy!

Now, now, the intermezzo is right until there, because I’ve arrived in Kota Tua, Jakarta!

It’s super crowded there and it feels like impossible to get a parking area for a car.
Fortunately, thanks for my super slim and skinny Toyota Agya, I could easily get a parking lot - like seriously, a lot faster than the other car around! -

Taking out my gear (read: camera) I start to look around at Kota Tua.

So crowded right? You can see the Pos Indonesia building right on your right side!!

Human Interest

One of my favourite photo theme is actually Human Interest, which means I secretly take a candid shot of people doing their things. There's always a story behind each Human Interest photos from the photographer point of view. That's why I love it!

They usually don't share about the point of view or the story, they just keep it on their head. But well, since I'm a nice one, I'll share you my perspective in each photos!

Here’s some of my fav shots in Kota Tua - and the story - how do you think?

An old man was playing puppets with "dangdut" songs
I take this shot because I realize that this man is super old but he has the spirit to fight! Maybe he's going through a hard life. His hair and beard colour is white & long, looks like he never go to saloon for years. His cap is old, might be as old as his age, and his clothes looks like it has not been wash properly. I just wonder if he has a kid or not, is there any one who still take care after him...

Foreigners enjoying their time! Upss... or not?
I take this shot because I'm in love with the black tank-top foreigners style, especially that glasses!! It's super cool! I'm glad that foreigners could enjoy their time, chill out comfortably with their friends in Kota Tua.

Thennn, I realize there's one foreigner with a white T-Shirt at the back... why you look so sad & confuse? Hmm, she might be waiting for a friend and I hope they will arrive soon!

Free Shots

Second, I also love to take whatever shots - scenery, stuffs, anything! Here’s what I capture in Kota Tua.

Lots of museums and old buildings that you could visit around Kota Tua, Jakarta. Proud of Indonesia YEAH!!

Buy some souvenirs while strolling around Kota Tua: A must!
Love cycling? Let's rent this out!

F-o-o-d!

Last but not least… FOOD! Yeep, there are lots of food stalls in Kota Tua, and one of them is traditional street food like the ones eaten by this girl.
Oh my, so hungry right now!

Some girls were enjoying their food! Makes me hungry!

Overall, I can say that Kota Tua is super beautiful, unique, and so Indonesia!

You could go to the museum, watch street performance, rent a bicycle, buy some souvenirs, eat traditional street food, and even say hi to foreigners! Anything!

I realized that I’m still a super amateur photographer, but I just want to show people how I look at the world :)

Believe it or not, every people has a different and beautiful perspective in their own eyes about the surroundings.
Those perspective could be shown through each of their photos.
That’s why, if you notice, every photographer has a different style / characteristic, right?

If you share the same hobby as me, taking photos, don’t be shy to drop comments, give critiques to my shots, and drop you blog(s) URL too so I can visit and see your world!

See you in the next hunting photo session & posts!

Thanks, reader(s)!

Tempat Hangout Gaul, Keren nan Hemat di Jakarta? Disini Tempatnya!

Temen: “Sis, gue liat lu eksis banget deh. Biasa nongkrong dimana sih? Gue minta saran dong tempat-tempat gaul ramah kantong. Maklum, udah ga terima uang lagi dari mak gue nih! Ga sanggup gue kalo bayar mahal.”

Gue: “Gue belum se-eksis itulahh. Wah, kalau itu sih gue lumayan banyak daftarnya.”

Nah, kalau kalian juga bingung mencari tempat nongkrong, gaul, keren nan hemat seperti temen gue (dan gue pun juga masih, sih) maka selamat ya, lu jodoh banget bisa ketemu pos ini! Ini nih, hasil hunting tempat hangout gaul, keren, nan hemat di seluruh penjuru Jakarta ala BornToBite.

1. Kelapa Gading – QQ kopitiam

Wow, super vintage, cozy, gaul abis deh!

Nasi Goreng Telur - IDR 12,000

Mau nge-charge HP, Laptop-an, semuanya bisa. Asoy abis kan?

Horfun Daging Kepiting - IDR 38,000 & Teh Tarik Peng - IDR 18,000

Menu yang mahalan dikit juga ada! Cobain deh Kwetiau Kepiting (iya, kepiting loh ini!) khas QQ kopitiam, ditemani dengan Teh Tarik Peng a.ka. Teh Tarik seger. Lunch session puas!

2. Grand Indonesia – Petit Julien

Meskipun kecil, tempatnya nyaman banget buat bersantai sendirian bersama dengan laptop!

Nah, buat lu yang suka nonglem alias nongkrong kalem sambil membuka laptop dan menulis cerita (#ceileh) ataupun sekedar nonton atau mendengarkan lagu, maka Petit Julien wajib dicoba! Suasananya cozy banget, terdapat colokan listrik bagi yang mau nonglem sambil main laptop, udah gitu dessertnya so yummy dan pastinya ramah kantong.

Belgian Waffle - IDR 30,000

Ikan bandengnya lembut banget, nggak berduri, dan luarnya so crispy!

Es Remuk Coklat - IDR 35,000

Apapun makanannya, minumannya teh botol… eh, salah ding. #kebawaiklan. Mau makan apapun, jangan lupa order Es Remuk Coklat! Rasanya seger banget, coklatnya nagih, berasa di pantai deh.

4. Pantai Indah Kapuk – Belly Inc

Misalnya saja Belly Inc.

Nongkrong asyik di Belly Inc

Spaghetti Aglio Olio - IDR 40,000

Teknik masak plus kompornya aja udah Jepang bingits!

Beef Bowl - IDR 30,000

Favorit gue disini adalah Beef Bowl. Udah harganya oke banget, porsinya pun besar dannnn…. Dagingnya banyak! (Ini yang paling penting nggak sih?)
Tinggal foto aja tuh makanan, upload ke social media lu dengan caption : “My first lunch in Japan!!” nah, ketipu semua deh temen soc-med lu, HAHAHAHA.

By the way, kalau tempat hangout gaul, keren nan hemat ala-ala lo dimana nih? ;)

Omah Sendok Jakarta: Feels Like Your Very Own Home!

“Omah” is a Javanese language of “Rumah”. In English, “Rumah” or “Omah” means a house. In the other hand, “Sendok” is a spoon. But, it doesn’t mean that it is the house of spoon, hahaha! The name consist “Sendok” because it is located in Taman Mpu Sendok road, in Senopati area.

Directions:

It’s kinda tricky and your vehicles need to be slow in order to find the place. When you find The Harvest in Senopati street, you need to take turn left until you find yourself in the middle of a housing complex. Just keep straight, and on your left side you’ll find Omah Sendok, which apparently really looks like an ordinary house.

The Ambiance: Indoor v.s Outdoor

“Omah Sendok” was an ordinary house before it was transformed into a restaurant / wedding / arisan(gossiping within housewives) / birthday / any other occasion places. As I went inside, I feel like I was walking into a home.

In the front area, you’ll find the indoor restaurant, where there’s also a private room that you can book and also a small Batik store (yes, they sell batik!). I love the details of the design here. It’s so authentic, so Javanese, and so homey! See the Buddha statue / picture there? Well, try to walk, and the Buddha face’s will follow you! So unique.
The private room

I love the ornament inside the house!
The small batik store
As for me, Kak Yenny already reserved the tables on the backyard for all of us. You’ll need to walk through a path until you reach the backyard. Surprise surprise, in the backyard there’s some restaurant tables, and also a swimming pool! Yes, this place can fit up to 400 people (standing party). If you want to celebrate any occasion here, I think this is the perfect private place (well, consider about pool party?)

Together with other foodies/bloggers
So green, so nature right?
A great place to chill out!

Love all the little touch done here!

Okay then, let’s go to the food review!

3 Soon-To-Be-Launch Menus!

The reason I went to Omah Sendok is because Kak Yenny invited me to try their soon-to-be-launch menus (so excited!!). Let’s take a peek on what menus they’ll be launching real soon!

Nasi Ijo

As the name implies, Nasi Ijo really consists of rice with green colour. Served with well-cooked chicken, sambal dabu-dabu, and with Baby Kaylan as the condiment, I bet you must be fall in love with this menu. I can barely taste the vegetables (Yes, it’s using vegetables to make the rice becomes green) The chicken is so tender, and the sambal dabu-dabu is superb! If you love to eat chilli, maybe you should request for a hotter sambal ;)

Ayam Woku

Dominated by yellow colour, the rice is combined with corns. The chicken meat itself is really tender, and blends well with the gravy. Taste perfect and there’s nothing I could complain about this dish. It’s really a nice choice for lunch. Especially when you eat this in Omah Sendok, near the pool side while enjoying the fresh air.

Bandeng Parape

Not like any other Bandeng, the meat of the Bandeng fish is already mashes and blends with Kunyit and any other herbs. That’s why the meat colour is yellow, and it looks like a crumb rather than a fish meat. Without any small bones, you could easily pick the mashed fish meat, together with the crisp outside. It’s easy to eat, taste delicious, healthy even for your kids!

Signature Dishes

Kue Pancong – IDR 12,000

Best served while hot, this is one of my favorite Kue Pancong so far! It’s so fluffy, and I love the strawberry syrup plus the whip cream. A great choice to start or even to end your dine in!

Asinan Omah – IDR 22,000

I’m not a vegetable lover or even love Asinan Betawi, but maybe this time I’ll make an exception. The vegetable is really fresh – it’s even crunchy! – and I love the asinan sauce! Eat it with “Kerupuk” and yes, you’ll crave for more. Super refreshing! I think this is a suitable dish if you held an Arisan.

Soto Tangkar – IDR 51,000

Having a beef ribs inside the soup, this dish is best served while warm, together with warm rice. The beef ribs itself is super tender, you don’t have to spend a lot of energy to bite the meat. For me, it’s a biiittt too salty, but if you eat it with warm rice, the taste would be perfect. I bet my dad will love this one, hahaha!

Bestik Jawa – IDR 60,000

Eating Bestik Jawa reminds me of Selat Solo, one of the traditional main course in Solo. The difference is that Bestik Jawa is served with a sauce, not a soup like Selat Solo. The meat is sweet, tender, the potato is really easy to chew, the vegetables are perfectly cooked. No wonder that this one is the signature dish of Omah Sendok.

Bandeng Bakar

If you go here with your family or even friends, you might want to order this one. The Bandeng fish is tender, and the sauce is really nice. Don’t forget to squeeze the lime before eating the fish. If you want to feel more sensation, eat it with your hands! ;)

Beverages

Es Remuk Coklat – IDR 32,000

Chocolate never fails me, as well as this drink! Together with the whip cream, this chocolate drink is super tasty and refreshing. Eventhough the portion is already large (about 20cm high), I wish it has a chocolate chips inside with big big portion, hahaha!

Es Remuk Coffee – IDR 32,000

For coffee lovers, this one is a great choice. Even though the coffee is not that strong – it is extremely light – but you still can taste the coffee inside it.

Kopi Peras

If you’re a true coffee lovers, then you should order Kopi Peres. The coffee smells and taste really good – it’s using a real coffee beans! I’d love to order this coffee, with fried banana (pisang goreng) or even hot kue pancong, sit on a table near the pool, together with my laptops and doing my freelance writing job. Sounds like a great idea?

So yes, if you’re looking for authentic Indonesian restaurant, Omah Sendok is great choice! Don’t forget to try their new menus if you go there!
